About

ABOUT MEREDITH

Going back to art started as an interest in 1998, two decades after doing art at school. After starting with watercolour, I then discovered pastels.

Pastels
Using pastels reignited my childhood love of coloured pencils, with preferred materials being pastel pencils and hard pastels on paper. I love colour and use this as my starting point, choosing colours to make the shapes which become rocks or bush or whatever is the subject of the artwork.

My Background and Other Interests
I grew up in Sydney, and completed a Bachelor of Arts before leaving for regional Australia, living in Townsville, Canberra then Hobart over the next twenty years. After nine years as a project officer in the Australian public service and went back to university to complete a Graduate Diploma in Communication. After moving to Tasmania I changed careers, working as a consultant for ten years in organisational development, training and coaching, first with a small firm in Hobart then as a sole trader.

The Central Coast
Following a sea change to the Central Coast of NSW in 2000, art became a key interest, along with work in the community sector, and a range of consulting.  I’ve also been actively involved with Central Coast Community Radio, Coast FM 963, since 2008.

Community radio
Community radio became a volunteer vocation, as an opportunity to combine a range of interests and experience, and to learn and practise being a radio presenter.

In April 2011, I set up a weekly arts program on Coast FM – called Coast Arts, broadcast Sundays 6-7pm.  I’m the producer and presenter of the program, and in June 2016 established a complementary program called Sunday Session, broadcast each fortnight 9-11pm, to showcase local contemporary music and music artists. Both programs involve regular interviews – both live in the studio and pre-recorded on location, plus segments from other people involved in the local arts scene.

In recognition of my work on Coast Arts since 2011, I was privileged to receive the 2017 Central Coast Council Australia Day Award for Arts, Culture and Entertainment. My aim with Coast Arts – and now Sunday Session – is to contribute to promotion and development of the arts and music on the Central Coast of NSW – The Creative Coast.

Interviewing has become a key interest and essential part of my roles in community radio.  Listen to interviews from the radio programs I produce on this Soundcloud page, or check out the Soundcloud playlists for Coast Arts and Sunday Session.

What next?
I’ve recently completed a Masters Degree in Policy and Applied Social Research, with the intention of taking my interest in interviewing into new territory over the coming months and years.

So ……..watch this space for the next stage of my activities………
